The I-8 Araby Road Transportation Interchange (T.I.) in Yuma, AZ, was recognized as the 2020 Build Arizona Project of the Year. The project featured the construction of two new dual-lane roundabouts, the widening of interstate on/off ramps, and roadway improvements designed to improve traffic flow and safety. GTS partnered with the project team to provide geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance at every stage.
The interchange improvements required both roadway construction and infrastructure modifications to meet the unique traffic demands of the area. Key elements included:
Our geotechnical engineers were tasked with verifying that all soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete materials used in the project met strict ADOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards.
To support roadway and roundabout construction, GTS performed comprehensive materials testing services, including:
Our testing and inspection services provided accurate, defensible data, allowing contractors and engineers to move forward with confidence.
As part of our role, GTS provided the contractor with:
By combining laboratory and on-site support, we ensured that construction quality and safety requirements were met without delays.
The I-8 Araby Road T.I. was completed successfully and has since been recognized as a statewide example of transportation innovation. With its six-way roundabout and widened interstate ramps, the project resolved long-standing traffic challenges in the region.
GTS’s contribution in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and inspection services helped ensure that all structural elements met the required standards for durability, stability, and safety.
